Porsche Museum celebrates 1st year

The Porsche Museum will offer a special programme to celebrate its 1st year
The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart is celebrating its first anniversary on Sunday, 31st of January 2010.
More than 530,000 visitors and over 2,500 guided tours are underlining another success story of the prestigious Porsche marque. The Museum has developed into a truly dynamic enterprise in only the first 365 days of its existence.
Mr Achim Stejskal, the managing director of the Porsche Museum, said: “We are proud to have exceeded our ambitious expectations significantly and in many respects”. When the Porsche Museum opened its doors to the public for the first time on January 31, 2009, Porsche officials had predicted optimistically that 200,000 (!) people would visit annually.
To celebrate the first birthday of the Porsche Museum, visitors will have the opportunity to have a first look behind the scenes and will be offered a peek into the Porsche Museum Workshop, where they can see the mechanics in action restoring those historic Porsches.
A Porsche Cinema will be open for the event and will be showing all kinds of different Porsche movies. Children will be given the opportunity to showcase their creativity in different workshops. Speedster enthusiasts will be offered a truly unique opportunity, where they are invited to take a seat in a Porsche 911 Speedster, of which pictures will be taken for the family album.
Porsche works driver Marc Lieb will be presenting the new Porsche 911 GT3 R for the 2010 racing season and racing engineers will demonstrate their skills to obtain valuable data from this car, for racing purposes. Both in the Exhibition Hall and in the Museum Workshop, cars will be started regularly, creating a roaring symphony in the Porsche Museum on this special day.
The Porsche Museum is arguably one of the most daring architectural designs to emerge among a recent wave of auto museums in Germany. The award-winning building is host to some 80 of the brand’s most famous sports and race cars, numerous small exhibits, as well as little-known prototypes from the company’s more than 60-year history.
