A Bugatti Type 22 Brescia Roadster from 1925 was recently fished out of the Italian Lake Maggiore and was on auction at Retromobile in Paris last week.

Bidding at Bonhams auction started at a price of 95,000 euros, but the Bugatti Type 22 fetched a respectable price of 260,500 euros in the end.

The Bugatti apparently ended up in the lake back in 1936 and is quite deteriorated, although you can still see some of the original blue body paint.

The Brescia Roadster was first spotted in the lake back in 1967 by a submarine, and was the property of a Swiss architect. It’s not known exactly how the car ended up in the lake, although the rumour points to a customs tax dispute.

The Bugatti Type 22, which surfaced again after more than 70 years, was not exactly in mint condition, but nevertheless attracted much publicity. It is believed, that the winning bidder, the Peter Mullin Collection in California, will show the car in its present condition.
