ADAC Eifelrennen

The ADAC Eifelrennen brings together a lot of historic road sports cars and a lot of them this year are under two litres.
As a motor racing circuit, the Nürburgring Nordschleife is without equal. It was once described by Jackie Stewart, three times F1 World Champion, as ‘The Green Hell’, due to the way the road meanders through the local woodland. It is almost certainly the most feared, most demanding and yet still the most fantastic purpose built motor racing circuit in the world.
In the weekend of 18-20 June 2010, the 69th ADAC Eifelrennen will be organized at ‘The Ring’. Already since 1922, the ADAC organizes the ‘Eifelrennen’ in the Eifel mountains near Aachen and Koblenz (GER). Nowadays attracting some 200,000 people over the weekend.
It all started on public roads, similar to the Targa Florio, Reims, Rouen-les-Essarts, Spa Francorchamps and many other races from that period. As from 1927, the ADAC Eifelrennen was the first race event to be organized on the legendary Nürburgring race track, in that period comprising of the Nordschleife, as we still know it and the Südschleife, which, in 1984, has been demolished and replaced by the modern GP circuit of today.
The orginal track was accessible to the public in the evenings and weekends and served as a one-way toll road. In period, the whole complex consisted of 174 bends, and was 8 to 9 metres in width on average. The fastest ever lap time around the full ‘Gesamtstrecke’ was set by Louis CHIRON (MC) on Bugatti, averaging a speed of 112.31 km/h (72 mph).
The two race circuits combined together, as used in the ADAC Eifelrennen, represent a track length of 25.359 km (15.758 mls). Highlight of the weekend will be the 300 km race for Touring Cars and GT’s. Here the European race community will meet to cross their swords. One of the most notorious competitions of which will be F.I.S.C. Legendary Circuits, the first motor sport series based on circuits and only the most legendary GP circuits, which still remain.
