The Ferrari girls never fail to show on any Ferrari event of importance.

In fifteen years time, the charity ‘Sport & Collection – 500 Ferrari against cancer’ event has seen fit to donate 1,700,000 euros to the CHU Hospital of Poitiers for their research against cancer. Despite the bad weather in 2009 the 15th edition was a real success and as a result 260,000 euros were donated. Now that the 2 million euros milestone is within reach, one can only hope that this year’s 16th Sport & Collection – Ferrari against cancer edition, which was organized Friday 4 to Sunday 6 June 2010, will have more than copied the success from last year.

New last year was the introduction of the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge to this event  at the Val de Vienne circuit at Le Vigeant (F), which immediately turned the event into one of the most important events as far as historical cars are concerned.

Nearly  1,500 cars were expected at the start. The weekend’s packed programme did not only include track racing, but also some free practice sessions for the historical single seaters from the F1 Clienti department in Maranello, amongst them Felipe Massa’s 2006 F1 Championship contender and a spectacular Ferrari 333 SP, the car which marked Ferrari’s return to what was once known as sports prototype racing. In order to develop this meeting into one of the world’s most beautiful Ferrari meetings, many efforts were put into the diversity of the track and road models which made the legend of the brand with the prancing horse.

Priority was given to their vintage sports cars, sport prototypes and the Le Mans GT’s of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, supercars, prototypes and modern race GT and  F1.

The race weekend started on the Friday with free practice sessions followed by qualifying and the first races on Saturday, while the Sunday was dedicated to the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge, organized by the Ferrari factory. Competition was divided into two leagues, consisting of cars with drum brakes, such as the Ferrari 500 Mondial, 750 Monza, 625 TF, 500 TR, 250 TR, 250 GT LWB and disc brakes, involving Ferrari 250 GT SWB, 250 GTO, 330 GTO, 412 P, 275 GTB, 312 P, 512 S, 512 M, 712 Can Am, 312 PB, 365 GTB/4 Comp and 512 BBLM.
