The Alfa Romeo Giulietta was designed to mark Alfa Romeo’s centenary.

Exactly today we are celebrating the foundation of Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A. , which was founded on June 24, 1910 in Milan, Italy.

The first true Alfa Romeo was the Torpedo 20-30hp and in 1919, it was Giuseppe Campari who won at Mugello in one such car. This success being closely followed by Enzo Ferrari ’s second place in the Targa Florio on the island of Sicily (I).

Alfa Romeo has focussed on both high-end sports and F1 cars as well as affordable road cars, making Alfa accessible to the world.  Therefore the famed Italian car maker’s 100th anniversary will be celebrated the world over. And in order to celebrate their centenary, Alfa Romeo commissioned two of Italy’s leading design houses to come up with their vision of how the Alfa Romeo of the future should look. One of them being the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the other being three door Alfa Romeo MiTo, both anchoring the entry level of today’s Alfa Romeo line-up.

Especially for this occasion the long-retired Giulietta nameplate was revived and although its sports-premium classification makes it first competition for the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta is closer priced to the VW Golf and Ford Focus.

The Giulietta features some of the most advanced technology in the automotive industry today, including dual dry clutch transmission, multi-air engine induction, ‘Start&Stop’ engine management, stability control and an electronic differential. The six gasoline and diesel engines will range from 104hp up to the 232hp Quadrifoglio Verde.

Production will take place in Cassino, further down towards the center of Italy and away from the traditional car producing districts in the north, but crucially Alfa Romeo could produce the Giulietta in North America for local consumption in its long-anticipated return to United States.

Very few brands have inspired as ferocious a loyalty to their cars as Alfa Romeo, inspiring their drivers to think; “Why do other car makers even bother?”.
