Circuit des Remparts d’Angoulême 2016
The Circuit des Remparts d’Angoulême event is an annually returning happening on the Legendary Circuits Series’ race calendar. As the website describes the feelings; “You cannot walk away from succes !”, which pretty much sumps up why the series continues to put this French street race on their race calendar.
Pieter Bakker [NL], the organizer of the series explains; “From the start in 2013, this event has been like scoring a bulls eye to us, such was the succes of the event. There is nothing you can compare to Angoulême, not even the French street circuit in Pau. The ambiance in Angoulême, during the three day event simply is out of the ordinary. This is like celebrating your holidays in a popular beach resort. People are out on the terraces, in the restaurants, in the streets til late at night. Visiting the exposition in the gardens of the Hôtel de Ville and the Concours d’Elégance. Watching the start and finish of the Rallye International de Charente, with some 750 participants, of which many return to the town centre by the end of the day. And then of course the highlight of the weekend, the races at the Circuit des Remparts d’Angoulême. Our races have been the best from the start. Very competitive and that is exactly what the people are here for. No parade, like many other grids, but cars fighting it out, only separated by a fat newspaper and ‘Gentleman Racing’ pur sang. Drivers receiving standing ovations from the stands, what never happened before. We simply must return.”
The series offers an unique service to its drivers by positioning the Paddock Club next to Les Halles in the very centre of Angoulême, opposite the local night club and the many restaurants.
If you ever think of taking your wife to a race event, this is the kind of ambiance you can take her to and for which she’ll be grateful to have experienced.
Rumors have been going on of the organizer going bust, but we’re happy to report the date of this year’s event being 16-18 September 2016.
