Since the start of “Equipe” GTS, back in 2002, a lot of time was spent to put the series on its feet. Endless phone conversations to answer drivers’ questions, which might not have pleased everybody, but helped “Equipe” GTS to grow into one of the most popular historic motor racing series in UK.
Events in those days still included some excellent European motor racing events at legendary circuits like Montlhéry, Le Mans Bugatti, Spa Francorchamps, Zandvoort, Dijon Prenios, Zolder and Charade (Clermont Ferrand).
Races were also organized on British soil at some of the more popular and demanding circuits including Donington Park, Silverstone International, Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Oulton Park.
Although their core group concerned a host of UK drivers in their MG ’s, “Equipe” GTS also succeeded in attracting cars and drivers from Germany, Italy, Holland, France, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden, enjoying some excellent racing.
Races are predominantly for lesser powered historic production sports cars including MGA, MGB, Triumph TR3 and TR4, Morgan 4/4 and +4, special bodied WSM Sprite and Jakobs Midget, Sabre 6, TVR Grantura, AC Ace, Alfa Romeo plus several superb sports cars with genuine 1960 ‘s racing history. The enthusiasm among owners of such cars to race among other like minded competitors and the camaraderie among the group is second to none.
Cars must race to FIA specification period E – F or to an acceptable period modified specification to be approved by the organising committee and on controlled historic tyres. “Equipe” GTS do not offer any championship and the need to win or to be competitive is not of paramount importance among their competitors.
Their aims and objectives are to provide a reasonably safe environment for owners of high quality historic cars to race in longer distance races at better quality circuits and meetings.
The provisional 2010 calendar is available now, including races at Snetterton, Brands Hatch (Indy), Zandvoort, Silverstone GP ánd national circuit, Knockhill, Pembrey and Cadwell Park.
Note: Continental racers who would be potentially interested to race in England, should be aware that events may be restricted either in track time or number of days. Best check their website.> “Equipe” GTS (official website) > “Equipe” GTS (photo gallery) > “Equipe” GTS (video)
